The show was the basis for a film of the same title in 2005. 6.2 Hazzard police cars (AMC Matador, Dodge Polara, Dodge Monaco, Plymouth Fury).14 Legacy and influence in popular culture. The Dukes of Hazzard follows the adventures of "the Duke boys", cousins Bo Duke ( John Schneider) and Luke Duke ( Tom Wopat) (including Coy and Vance Duke for most of season 5), who live on a family farm in fictional Hazzard County, Georgia (the exact location of which was never specified, though Atlanta was mentioned several times as the nearest big city), with their female cousin Daisy ( Catherine Bach) and their wise old Uncle Jesse ( Denver Pyle). The Duke boys race around in their customized 1969 Dodge Charger stock car, dubbed (The) General Lee, evading crooked and corrupt county commissioner Boss Hogg ( Sorrell Booke) and his bumbling and corrupt Sheriff Rosco P. As a result, Bo and Luke are on five years' probation and not allowed to carry firearms-instead, they often use compound bows, sometimes with arrows tipped with dynamite-or to leave Hazzard County unless they get probation permission from their probation officer, Boss Hogg. The exact details of their probation terms vary from episode to episode. Sometimes it is implied that they would be jailed for merely crossing the county line on other occasions, it is shown that they may leave Hazzard, as long as they are back within a certain time limit. Several other technicalities of their probation also come into play at various times.Ĭorrupt county commissioner Jefferson Davis (J. "Boss" Hogg either runs, or has his fingers in, virtually everything in Hazzard County. Many episodes revolve around Hogg's attempts to engage in some such scheme, sometimes with the aid of hired criminal help. Some of these are get-rich-quick schemes, though many others affect the financial security of the Duke farm, which Hogg has long wanted to acquire for various reasons. Other times, Hogg hires criminals from out of town to do his dirty work for him, and he often tries to frame Bo and Luke as part of these plots. ![]() Bo and Luke always seem to stumble over Hogg's latest scheme, sometimes by curiosity, and often by sheer luck, and put it out of business. Despite the Dukes often coming to his rescue, Hogg never loses his irrational dislike of the clan, particularly Bo and Luke, often accusing them of spying on him, robbing or planning to rob him, or other nefarious actions. The role of Boss Hogg was played by Sorrell Booke, who performed frequently on radio, stage, and film prior to his role in The Dukes of Hazzard.

If rationing parents’ choices is the way to go, then why aren’t the interests behind the Senate’s proposal also looking to “claw-back” the thousands of Detroit children who now attend school districts like Clintondale, East Detroit, Redford Union and others? This suggests the drivers behind the DEC have a political agenda against charters. Large numbers of Detroit children attend public schools in neighboring districts under a “school of choice” program that’s been in place since the late 1990s. Why is the commission concerned about charter schools but not about the cross-district schools of choice program? The organization’s co-chair, Tonya Allen of the Skillman Foundation, recently said House Republicans are the “worst of the worst” who know little about schools (she later apologized).Ĥ. An organization called the Coalition for the Future of Detroit Schoolchildren has also been lobbying for the proposed commission and limits on choice. Unions want the state to give bailout money and restrict school choice - the Michigan Education Association applauded the Senate plan. Mainly the governor, unions, and interest groups in the city with strong ties to the regular Detroit school district. Snyder cites concerns about school accountability and the financial woes of DPS. Who wants the Detroit Education Commission? The Senate plan encourages more bad behavior in the future.ģ. History shows that when DPS doesn’t reform, it gets a bailout. If charters don’t perform, they go out of business. Parents have good reason to be voting with their feet when they remove their children from DPS and place them in a charter school. It gives the appearance that these lawmakers care most about keeping the status quo Detroit school district in existence even at the expense of doing what’s best for families and children. This objection raises serious concerns about priorities. They also say that because so many parents have taken advantage of the choices currently available, charter schools in particular, the viability of the regular Detroit school district has been damaged. Snyder, the Senate, unions, Detroit Public Schools, and other interest groups claim that rationing school choice alternatives is needed because parents might make the wrong choices. Why do Republican lawmakers want to make choice and competition yield to bureaucratic control and rationing? A DPS bailout should come with strings attached -including more school choice, not less, and stringent limits on deficit spending by DPS.Ģ. They actually make the situation worse by limiting choice. The Senate-passed bills deliver the cash and get little back in reform. Lawmakers plan to give more than $700 million to Detroit Public Schools, but this should be contingent on making the needs of students the top priority, as opposed to preserving the status quo school district. What are taxpayers getting for the money legislators are sending to Detroit? As legislators work out a solution, they should consider the following questions.ġ. The Senate proposal’s prospects are uncertain in the Michigan House, which has bailout legislation that is much friendlier toward increasing school choice options in the city. This comes despite the fact that the best independent research shows charters are currently providing better learning opportunities for Detroit children and that federal reports have labeled DPS as the nation's worst urban school district since 2009. The debt forgiveness is not the most controversial part of the package the state is already on the hook for this money and the district has no way to repay it.Ī more contentious part of the rescue plan is a proposal to create a new Detroit Education Commission, appointed by Mayor Mike Duggan, with the power to ration the expansion of charter schools in the city. Among other things, it includes $48.7 million to keep the insolvent district afloat until the end of the current school year, which is considered a down payment on a larger bailout that includes $515 million in debt forgiveness and another $202 million for transition costs. The Michigan Senate passed a package of bills that would rescue Detroit Public Schools financially. Important to note here is that this is also the reason the "Execute Macro" action in "Update" was called asynchronously if not, "Stop" would be seen as a child of the "Update" instance, meaning it'd cancel itself. As described, this is in case the Pomodoro is stopped prematurely through the menu bar item. In the "Logic" group, first the earlier saved macro instance is canceled. Those actions outside are again up to the user to allow for customization. Similarly to the "Start" macro, this contains a "Logic" group and a few actions outside of the group. If the result is 0 the run the " stopped" is triggered, and otherwise it goes back to the beginning of the repeating group. Once the minute has passed, I decrease the POMODORO_REMAINING by 1. I initially had this macro set up with the "Periodic Trigger", but since that executes every minute on the minute it didn't ensure an accurate timing. First it sets the title, and then it pauses for 1 minute. The POMODORO_REMAINING number is then used to repeat a group of actions n times. ![]() This is later used to cancel that specific instance, which is needed in case a Pomodoro is stopped mid run. ![]() The first action saves the ID of the macro instance. I then enable the "Stop" macro and disable the "Start" macro, which ensures that only one of them will ever be visible in the menu bar menu: "Start" when no Pomodoro is running, and "Stop" otherwise (see also my approach to starting and stopping modes). This is used to keep track of the Pomodoro progress. In the second "Logic" group I use the configured duration to set the time remaining ( POMODORO_REMAINING). While the prompt is open Enter will start the Pomodoro and Escape will close the prompt and cancel the macro. I deliberately placed the Local Loops input first, since it seemed more likely to be customized than the duration. In the first "Logic" group it first prompts for input, allowing configuration of the number of loops and the duration of each Pomodoro. The reason of grouping actions together in those "Logic" groups is purely to make it easier to indicate what's actually necessary for the functionality and where to add in custom actions. Those macros in between are up to the user, and aren't strictly necessary-they just allow for initiating anything else when starting a Pomodoro. The "Start" macro contains two groups called "Logic" with some actions in between. Noteįor custom icons you can download Apple's SF Symbols ↗ for free, which is the same set of icons that have just been added to Keyboard Maestro itself. It has no icon, since I prefer to set that through text as well to have them display nicely in the same color. The macro group contains four individual macros, and is set to display in the menu bar with a title from the variable POMODORO_TITLE. This part is really up to the user, but having it together with my other macros like this offers a lot of flexibility. For example, when a Pomodoro starts it turns on Do Not Disturb and turns my desk light red, and at the end of a Pomodoro it resets both. Since this is all done with Keyboard Maestro I can easily hook in any of my other macros. In between Pomodoros, the menu bar will show that you're on a break.Īfter the break interval, steps 3–4 are repeated, until there are no more loops remaining. Starting a Pomodoro will show the remaining time in the menu bar. This defaults to 4 loops of 25 minutes, meaning that it covers a period of 2 hours. #BehaviorĪt rest, there's an item in the menu bar to open up a menu for starting a Pomodoro.Ĭlicking the menu item lets me configure the next Pomodoro run: how many loops there should be, and how long each Pomodoro should last. On the one hand for the reasons mentioned in the introduction, and on the other hand for the deep integration it provides me with my other macros. There are plenty of dedicated apps for this, but I wanted to do it with just Keyboard Maestro. Normally it's a 25-minute period of work followed by 5 minutes of break, which can then be repeated multiple times. The Pomodoro technique ↗ is a time management method that has you alternate between periods of focus and short breaks. The rest of the post will go into detail about the steps and the logic behind it, but the complete macro group can be downloaded from the conclusion. I decided to build out a minimal Pomodoro app around these features-partially for the learning experience, and partially at the request of my wife. Since then I've been playing around with some of their new features, and there are two in particular I found interesting: the ability to create subroutines ↗ and the ability to show macro groups in the menu bar ↗. That update inspired me to hurry up and get my post on desktop productivity out, which covers a lot of my Keyboard Maestro setup. This week Keyboard Maestro released v10.0 ↗. Drinks with names like the Mexican Eagle and the Tia Juano appear, and the glossary in the back assures us that tequila is not only made from “a cactus” (natch) but can be used in cocktails with “success.”Īmid its pages we find one drink labeled simply “Tequila”-here, again, we find the combination of tequila, lime, and grenadine. Tarling was published by the United Kingdom Bartenders Guild in 1937 and offers a unique insight into the British cocktail scene of the decade previous. The Café Royale Cocktail Book by William J. The American art form of cocktailing survived other places as well while the States remained dry. The new version proved popular and became a house specialty. According to the stories, a barkeep working there at the time grabbed the wrong bottle and used tequila instead of gin. The house daisy being served at the Turf Bar was a gin drink with lime, grenadine, and seltzer water. ![]() Cocktail historian Dave Wondrich found a Tequila Daisy recipe dating from 1925 in Tijuana, but by that time, the term daisy had broadened and its meaning changed. While America was caught up in the nasty business of Prohibition, drink making lived on in Mexico. Of course nothing in the world of mixed drinks stays the same forever, and bartenders love throwback names. While it would be years before a daisy recipe showed up in a cocktail book, it was a fairly well-known drink in the United States during the 19th century. If you were to replace the brandy with what was sometimes erroneously referred to as “mescal brandy” in its stead, you’d have something very close to the modern margarita (the word margarita, after all, translates to “daisy”). The classic daisy of the golden age of cocktails-often made with brandy or whiskey-is a sour where the sugar element has been replaced with a sweet liqueur, most notably with an orange one. I recommend a blanco-or a tequila that’s only seen a very brief resting in wood barrels, as evidenced by a relatively clearer color. It’s easy to find a good bottle these days. Sure, you can substitute another agave spirit-and certainly mezcal margs have been trendy over the years-but stray away from Mexican distillates and you leave the margarita far behind. Everyone knows the heart and soul of the drink is tequila. The margarita is an iconic drink that consists of just four ingredients. After all, familiarity can breed contempt, but it’s precisely because of this classic’s ubiquity that we should stop to admire the beautiful daisies. It’s easy to overlook the salt-rimmed rocks glasses we find at every hotel bar, every chain restaurant, and half the backyard barbecues you’ll attend this summer. ![]() The margarita is one of those drinks it has become bigger than the details. Yet, occasionally, a drink is so big, so important that it transcends its contradictory legends and downright disinformation. But the origin stories, the details, and, all too often, the credit can feel like a boozy game of telephone in which the participants are encouraged to indulge in barroom boasting. It’s full of booze-splattered journal pages and discarded lime trimmings on the scupper. The history of cocktails is always messy. Soulcalibur vi season pass 21/26/2024 Don't get me wrong, it's fun to create and mess around with custom characters, but the mode that goes along with it is just boring. You'd think that character creation and the "Libra of Souls" mode would pick up alot of the slack here, but it doesn't. Why have us fighting mooks that don't even appear in the game? This is a fighting game, your plot should have reason for these characters to meet and duke it out more. Sure there's "side stories" but those were pretty mediocre as well. Like really? Texts and terrible artwork for the majority of your cutscenes? And the main plot was Zzzzzzzzz boring with repeated cheesy but not funny lines and it barely incorporates the cast. Sorry, but in the age of Injustice, Smash, and Guilty Gear, half-assed doesn't cut it anymore. ![]() The main story mode is laughable and is only a retread of the original Soul Calibur. Wanna see the flow of combat grind to a complete halt everytime someone does a "flashy" move and everything stops so it can look like a movie? The base mechanics itself are okayish (but not balanced) but instead of making it better they just tacked on a bunch of "bling" to make it look good but really bring down the gameplay. I wanted to like this one because I had good memories of Soul Calibur 6 but man oh man did this one disappoint. It is not a perfect game but it is at this moment the best 3D fighter on the current gen consoles. This easily avoided PR mess up is something they need to learn from I get the feeling that Namco gave the devs very little money for this project, and as such they needed to focus on some things, thankfully they focused on the right thing. The character in that dlc fits better into the story then some of the character in the base roster. Often you are shown the same old picture with a picture of a character and some enemy.
